KIDNAPPED

“If I get kidnapped on this trip will you come and get me?”  This was the last text that Jennifer Buchanan sent her husband.  Jennifer was with a colleague, Poul Thisted, headed to a training session from one area of Somalia to another.  There had been warnings of kidnapping in the area, so even though she thought it wasn’t going to happen Jennifer wanted to make sure her husband would rescue her.  Little did she know that within minutes she and her traveling companion would become the next victims.

Jennifer hadn’t been scared before, the only thing that she worried about was being caught in the crossfire of random warfare or being robbed.  When a vehicle approached and roared up beside them she began to worry especially when men with AK-47’s encircled the car.  They pulled out the security guard jumped in and took off.  It was at that time that the driver, who had told them that this was his first day, was actually in on the attack.  They were driven to the desert where they were held hostage for 93 days.  Jessica’s health began to decline and she felt that she would never be rescued.

While watching Jessica’s interview there was one piece of information that let me know why and how she survived in the desert with pirates.  Every night she would look into the sky, no moon was there, but there was one star that was very bright and it was there every night.  That star became her star, her hope.  Her mother had died several years before, so Jessica said that the star was her mother.  She never felt alone when the star was shining.  Her mother was with her everynight.   She asked her mother to please tell God that she needed help.

Black sky, black masks, was all she could see in the darkness.  Jessica covered up with her blanket trying to hide from the unknown.  Scared and weak she still thought this was it, death, no more life.  She then heard a voice, an American voice, “Jessica?  We are here to help you and take you home.”  In the darkness of the night navy seals glided in by parachutes to rescue the young lady that hadn’t lost hope because of a star.

Never lose hope have faith.  Find a focal point and ask God to help.  If you are feeling that you are going nowhere, if you feel you are being held hostage by certain situations ask God to set you free.  With God all things are possible.
