This morning as I scrambled eggs and threw the shells in the
sink, I immediately thought of our cat Teddy who was killed on the highway
Wednesday. He would sit and wait for me
to put the shells where he could get his paws on them. He would grab one and throw it on the floor
then push it back and forth, chasing it from corner to corner like it was a
hockey put. I would sometimes find them
under things when I would vacuum. My
memories of this loved cat will last forever.
The Lord designed our brains so that we would remember
things of importance. He made our brains
to focus on the important things in life and not get lost in the insignificant
details. Some memories are made to last
a lifetime while other fade away.
God wants our brains to always remember Him. In biblical times God placed importance on
using ritual ceremonies to help us recall His grace. During the first Passover the Lord saved the
first-born children. The Israelites were
told to repeat this ceremony ever year to reinforce the memory of Gods
grace. Throughout our lives God wants us
to focus our minds on His good things (Colossians 3:2; Philippians 4:8).
As my mind makes my heart smile thinking about my fluffy
kitty, I know that the Lord is scrambling eggs in heaven and Teddy is teaching
Him how to play hockey with the shells.
Praise the Lord for memories.
