I have an app on my phone called Happy Quotes. Everyday I receive a quote on happiness. Today the quote read, “Everyone wants to live
on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you’re
climbing it. “ (Andy Rooney) How true is
this? I always wanted my children not to
have to encounter the hardships of life, but then I realized just as Andy
Rooney quoted you have to climb to learn.
Climbing up the side of a mountain can be hard at times. You may run into places where you lose your
footing. You may come across snakes,
bugs, or rodents, ew! You may become
winded and tired. At times you may think
you can’t go on, you just want to give up, but never quit the climb.
The shape of our mountain is very interesting, much like
that of the mountains around us they are wide at the bottom and get narrower
and narrower as you go up. As we climb
we must stay closer to the center than to the outside edges. Our minds have to be focused on the climb
watching our steps. We must be careful
where our feet tread. When we become
distracted we are disconnecting from the walk and therefore may end up with
disaster.
This journey up the side of the mountain resembles our walk
with the Lord. We begin not being as
focused on Him, but as we read His word and spend time with Him we become
narrower minded. We learn to walk up the
mountain holding His hand instead of leaving Him behind. While walking He is with us no matter what
situation we run into. The higher we
climb on our journey the closer we are to Him.
So I say this to you, “Keep Climbing!” The Lord is with you no matter what the
terrain consists of. He is with you
protecting you from the vicious world around you. He is there to pick you up when you lose your
footing. He will even carry you when you
feel you are too tired to climb anymore.
Climb your mountain and unfold the glory that waits before you.
Psalm 37:30-31
New International Version (NIV)
30
The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom,
and their tongues
speak what is just.
31
The
law of their God is in their hearts;
their feet do not
slip.
