Lauren and I had a discussion on the famous poem by Robert Frost,
“The Road Not Taken.” Lauren said it
doesn’t mean what everyone thinks it means, so that has led me to do some
research. Frost wants you to believe
that there are two roads to take in life, one that is less traveled and one
that is heavily traveled upon. However
when studying the poem you will understand that Frost states that the two roads
are basically the same. One writer,
David Haglund, writes that everyone wants to think that their choices matter,
but really things happen the way they are suppose to happen.
All of us come to forks in the road and when we come to the
decisions of life we question just like Alice In Wonderland did; which road do
I take? I think about all the roads that
I took that I shouldn’t have, all the roads that were life lessons, and all the
roads I chose that were good. It all
comes down to the time in my life when the road was taken. Earlier in life I took the road on the left,
later in life I took the road on the right.
Earlier in life was when I was more self centered. .
Later was when I had matured and was Christ centered. So really it doesn’t matter what road we take
it is the timing that matters. If we are
Christ centered, even if we end up on a bad road, we know how to deal with the
circumstances that lie ahead.
So I question does it matter what fork you take or does it
just matter with whom you are consumed with?
When you are consumed with the Holy Spirit no matter which direction in
the fork you travel you will know whether it is the wrong road or the right
road. You will know whether to turn
around or to keep going. So in the end
Robert Frost is correct both paths are the same, but as I have noted it depends
on who is holding your hand and accompanying you on your journey.
Walk with the Lord, allowing the Holy Spirit to dwell deep
within you and then it won’t matter which road you take. He will lead you down the path of
righteousness. You don’t have to make a
choice just follow Him and your path will be laid out in front of you. God’s path is the only way to have peace and
rest.
Proverbs 3:6
King James Version (KJV)
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Jeremiah 6:16
New International Version (NIV)
16 This is what the Lord says:
“Stand
at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way
is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, ‘We will
not walk in it.’
