HAPPY FATHERS DAY

My dad was very crafty.  He was also an artist.  If you put crafty and artist together, you have a very great combination.  He painted portraits of all of us and he painted landscaping pictures.  He would mold and shape a piece of wood into many different pieces of art.  One of the gifts my dad gave to us was a china cabinet.  He made my sister one and he made me one.  In 1999 we moved from our older home to our new one.  The china cabinet was relocated into its new place in the dining room.  I began to dust and clean my pieces of furniture and place all of my dishes and such in their appropriate places.  I climbed upon my ladder to dust off all the dust that had collected on the top of my china cabinet.  As I cleaned the top I saw something written in pencil in the top left corner.  My daddy had left me a note.  The note read, “Misti what would we have done without you, I love you daddy.”  These words, found 4 years after my father’s death, meant more to me than anything I could have ever asked for.

Today being father’s day I am reminded of my two fathers, my earthly father and my heavenly Father.  Our earthly father much like our heavenly father gives us many gifts.  They shape us and form us into the person we become.  They love us unconditionally and do not ask for anything in return except our love.  Both give us direction some spoken some unspoken.  Our heavenly father says in Deuteronomy 10:12 “walk in His ways, serve Him with all your heart and soul.”  Our earthly fathers teach us the same.  They teach us lessons of right and wrong and they teach us lessons of love.

We learn many things from both our fathers.   Some spoken words some in the written word.  Whether spoken or unspoken they are both meaningful.  Many times the unspoken words are more important than those that the human ear can hear.  With that being said take the time today to write something to someone.  These written words will be a treasure that will last a lifetime.

Happy Fathers Day to all fathers!
