My word for July 7th is DOUBT
My brother is 62 and he feels that he has always been dealt
a bad hand of cards. Last year
after our world fell apart, it became worse. One day I told him that he just needed to pray about it, but
he said, “the Lord hasn’t done anything for me yet”. He may feel this way, but on the flip side I feel completely
different. I can tell within
myself the days that I am distant from the Lord. On the days that I’m not walking with Him in faith, like I
should be, my writing doesn’t come naturally. It is harder to come up with what to say. For me to be healthy and at peace for
my family, I cannot have doubt.
Even when something happens that throws me back into the pit, I have to
see how the situation can work for me in a positive way instead of a negative
way. I know that my survival
depends on the Lord, no doubt about it!
So I ask, how do we get people to not have doubt? How do we take those people that have
had sorrow and hardships and feel that the Lord hasn’t done anything for them
and help them have faith? How can
we make them understand? I really
didn’t know where to go with this, however just like so many days I typed in my
subject on the web and I was led straight to an article that gave me all my answers. (These are the things that give me no
doubt in the Lord) I have linked the article below so you can read the complete
article.
This article begins by saying that doubt is very common and
natural, praise the Lord. We have
all doubted at certain times in our lives. Doubting is what makes us realize what true faith is. Just like finding this article, I
didn’t know if I was going to find any answers, I had doubt, but I typed in
doubt of God and it lead me directly to this. Doubt exists to verify something. Doubt is also a characteristic that we have when we aren’t
focused on God when we are focused on us.
When I am having a pity party and thinking, "woe is me", I
have an aching in my heart, but when I am focusing on my writing sharing with
people and helping others I am at peace.
Having doubt goes hand in hand with being selfish and focusing on
yourself and not focusing on what God can give us.
It is difficult not to have doubt. Doubt is natural.
The next time you doubt pray.
Don’t pray for the Lord to help you, pray for the Lord to give you
something to take the doubt away. Do
something for someone else, do a random act of kindness; these are the things
that take the doubt away. In time
your prayers will be answered.
Proverbs 3:5-8 ESV Trust in the Lord
with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your
ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your
own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your
flesh and refreshment to your bones.
James 1:6 ESV But let him ask in
faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that
is driven and tossed by the wind.
Dear Lord our spiritual experience isn’t always easy. At times we have doubt. Help us to not have doubt, not to focus
solely on us or let situations take over our lives. Guide us to your word helping us to become better and never
bitter. During 2012 lead us out of
the darkness of doubt and into the love of the light.
