My word for July 4th is NESTS
Birds always make nests in our porch lights. While out in the yard the other day, I
noticed a baby bird lying on the ground.
I don’t know if it had falling out of the nest or if the mother bird had
pushed it out. Gosh love it.
Mother birds know when their babies are ready for their independence, ready to
take off and fly. Just like
baby birds, as children get older they fall out of the nest also. They may not fall they may run, they
may reluctantly walk or as parents we may give them a little push. I never thought the day would
come this soon when I have to drive to different towns to see my children. They aren’t completely out of the nest,
but they are semi on their own, pushed to be independent. I am left with one at home who wants
her independence, but isn’t quite there yet.
At times in our lives we all want our independence. We want to be our own person doing our
own thing. This is a gift given to
us as Americans that dates back to 1776.
During the 18th century our forefathers, who were
representatives of the 13 colonies, fought for independence from Great Britain. On July 2nd 1776 the
Continental Congress voted in favor of independence and two days later they
adopted the Declaration of Independence.
Thomas Jefferson drafted this historic document. Because of this we celebrate July 4th
as being the birth of American independence.
Because of the Declaration of Independence we, as Americans,
have established our independence.
We wanted freedom to serve God and make our own decision on our
relationship with Him. This gift
of independence that was given to us is important, however even though we are
independent we are never independent from God. Just as those colonists fought
for freedom, God gave us freedom by giving His son Jesus to save us. Because He gave us this precious gift
we should be led by God in everything we do. We should always live dependant on Him, not away from
Him. We should give God our
attention everyday, asking for direction and praying for His grace and
mercy.
Just as we give our children a little push out of the nest,
God knows when we need a little push.
When we let Him, He gives us a shove; He will give us wings to fly. We will soar through life having the
gift of living independent as an American, but always being dependent on
Him.
Dear God thank you for giving us a push and a shove when we
need it. We know that when we live
and depend on You our lives will be full of peace and joy. Assist us in following Your will for us. We know that we have the gift of
independence given to us by our forefathers, but we live one nation under God,
living and depending on You. We
thank you for giving us freedom from sin and death that You provided for us
through Your son Jesus. Remind us
daily that we are free to praise You because of those colonists that fought for
freedom. During this journey of
2012 give us the strength to lead others to the freedom found by following You.
Galatians 5:13 New International Version
(NIV)
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use
your freedom to indulge the flesh[a]; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
