My word for July 3rd is BALANCE
Sunday night was Katie’s last night home before returning to
college. We cooked what she wanted
for supper, and then we sat down to watch women’s gymnastics. I can tell that we are all going to be
addicted to the Olympics. Right
now the athletes are competing hoping and praying to get on the 2012 Olympic
teams. They want to become part of
the “chosen ones”. All the
gymnasts are competing against each other on floor, vault, parallel bars, and
beam. We loved the floor routines,
all the tumbling from one end of the mat to the other. We also really liked the parallel
bars. I don’t know how they swing
from one to the other and aren’t scared to death. The vault seems tough; I would probably run right into the
vault instead of over it. The one
thing that Katie and I both held our breath for was the balance beam. I could barely watch. Those girls have to be fearless. How they balance on a narrow piece
of wood that is 3 feet off the ground, I have no idea. They don’t just walk, they jump, they
twist, they turn, and they tumble.
Such skill and talent they all have. I would be shaking.
We may not have to balance on a balance beam, but we do have
to keep our lives in balance. How
do we keep our lives balanced? Do
we always have things in our lives in the proper place? This is a difficult task. It can be
difficult to balance work and home.
We can find it hard to balance our feelings. It may be difficult to balance relationships. It is hard to not be harsh, but then not
be weak. We need to try and find a
happy medium for our lives. There
is an easy way to do this. There
is one priority in our lives’, only one that that will help us stay balanced. When we put this one thing
first in our lives everything else will fall into place, life becomes
effortless all things become balanced. Everything in our lives will have meaning. All other parts of our lives are
embraced and changed for the better. So what is this one thing? What must come first, what is our number
one priority? What is the one
all-inclusive that will determine everything in life? That one thing is Jesus. When you know him your life will be in perfect balance. When Christ is truly known by you and you
put Him first, all things are instantly prioritized and take on their own
value.
Quit over balancing and trust in the Lord. If you aren’t balanced and you are
beginning to fall off your balance beam of life He will catch you. During 2012 surrender all to Him and
your life will be balanced.
Dear Lord we know that our lives need to be balanced. The only way we can be balanced is if
we put You first in our lives. By
putting You first every part of us will fall into place, mentally, physically,
spiritually and socially. Help us
to stay focused on You and strong in faith. During this year of 2012 keep us walking, balancing on this
balance beam of life.
Colossians 3:17
New
International Version (NIV)
17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of
the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
