Develop: to grow or cause to grow and become more mature,
advanced or elaborate.
This is the definition that is given on the web for
develop. When I think of develop my mind
goes to that of a fetus. The fetus grows
and develops in the mother’s womb. It is
given nutrients by the mother in which feeds the growing body. One
piece at a time the fetus is developing from eyes, ears, limbs, digestive
system, lungs and every other intriquite detail. Day by
day the fetus develops into what we know as the mature baby.
After birth we continue to grow. We not only grow physically, but we grow
mentally and spiritually. We start out as immature Christians and then grow
into mature ones. Some of us mature
quickly, but some grow at a slower pace.
The First5 weekend wrap-up finished the book of Genesis. In the book of Genesis is a person that we
can see go from an immature Christian to a mature one.
God had to work on Joseph.
I love the way Lysa Terkeurst describes Joseph’s development.
Joseph had a dream that one day he would rule over his brothers. Instead of keeping this prophecy to himself
he ran to his brothers as if to say, “I’m going to be the boss of you.” Of course the brothers weren’t as excited
about that as Joseph was. So what did
they do? They sold Joseph.
This was the beginning of Josephs rollercoaster ride. At the time of the sale, Joseph wasn’t ready
for the calling that the Lord had for his life.
He had to develop. As Lysa
states, “God had to develop Josephs character to match his calling.”
If you are going through difficulties. If you are on a rollercoaster ride of life
remember this, God is developing you. He
is taking all of your circumstances to grow you into the Christian you need to
be. He is using every situation so that
others will see the mature Christian develop within you.
Your rollercoaster may go fast or slow God sets the
speed. Someone else may be blessed by
your situation before you are. It is all
in Gods time and Gods way. He develops
the character in you so that you can do great work for Him.
Hang on as your roller coaster is sailing along and prepare
for the landing. It is then that you
will receive the blessings of God development within you.
