FOCUS

SET YOUR MIND ON THE THINGS THAT MATTER NOT ON THE THINGS THAT DON’T MATTER.

Have you ever been distracted by the outside world?  You just can’t focus?  You mind wonders from one thing to another?  It reminds me of those children that I taught with ADD.  When they are in a room with many things going on around them their minds will shift from one thing to another.  They are unable to focus on what is really important.  Much unlike the prescription for ADD setting your mind on what matters isn’t just as easy as taking a pill.  For some it is easy to have complete control of the mind for others it may not happen that easily.

We have so many things that take our mind off of what is important.  Social media and television are just a few.  We can watch anything with the click of a button and search anything with a swipe of a mouse.  We focus our mind on things that bother us, things that stress us and things that are truly out of our control.  We think continually on the things that cause chaos in our life instead of peace. So how do we set our minds on what matters?

When I don’t start my day reading my Bible study, praying and focusing on Him my day seems to be filled with distractions, the chaos.  You must find what helps draw you closer to Him at the beginning of everyday.  Being in His presence from the time your feet hit the floor until the time they return to sleep will help keep your mind from wondering.  You must learn how to let go and let Him be the focus.  When you focus on Him and His word you will follow His plan for your day.  He will help our minds stay focused on what does matter in life.

Those unimportant “matters of life” will venture into our lives, but we must know what we need to do to not focus on them.  We must know how to be like Mary sitting at His feet and listening to Him.

Luke 10:38-42
New International Version (NIV)
At the Home of Martha and Mary
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

**If you haven’t ever read the book “Being a Mary in a Martha World”  you need to.  Great read!!
