ONE DAY AT A TIME

Illnesses, adversities and changes are all around us.  It seems that everyday something else has happened to someone.  There is no way to escape the challenges that life brings us.  One of my friends was asking me how our family was and she concluded by saying, “One day at a time sweet Jesus.”  So true, one day at a time.

The story behind the song, “One Day At a Time Sweet Jesus,” written by Marijohn Wilkin, is a fabulous story.  Marijohn went through one mountaintop of joy and success to another, but between those peaks were valleys filled with excruciating mental suffering.  She was a famous country singer, but her life had turned to alcohol and she had attempted suicide on several occasions.  One day Marijohn decided she couldn’t go on the way she was, so she stopped by a small church and asked the young minister for help.  She told the minister she didn’t know what was wrong with her; she didn’t know what her problem was.  The minister replied saying, “have you ever thought about thanking God for your problems?” (Ephesians 5:20 (NIV) 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.).  Marijohn went immediately home and wrote the lyrics that stick in people’s minds still today.

We all have challenges, but always remember that God is with us, He never leaves us.  He will carry us through any stronghold that has overtaken us.  All we must do is thank Him for our problems because there is a reason for them.  There are many blessings within the adversity.  We may not be able to see them yet, but they are there.

Just remember have patience, thank the Lord and say often ONE DAY AT A TIME SWEET JESUS!
