My word for June 3rd is COOK
Katie is home for several weeks before she goes back to
college for summer classes. While
she is home one of the things that we are doing together is cook and put all
the recipes in “Katie’s Cookbook”.
Katie, since living in a house next year, wants to learn how to cook
different meals. She is a natural
in the kitchen, so it doesn’t take much to teach her the details of
cooking. She whipped up tuna salad
the other day, boiled eggs and all.
We’ve made chicken and noodles, party potatoes, chicken kabobs, Alf redo
sauce, and have many more items on our list. You never know what we are going to come up with; we may
come up with something new during this cooking journey.
Our lives are much like cooking using a recipe. Just as a recipe there are many
ingredients involved. We
were born with certain ingredients and as we grew different ingredients were
added. Our family, our friends, and
our experiences add extra ingredients to make us who we are today. These other ingredients that are added
make us better and full of flavor or bitter and full of hate. It depends on what we add as to what the outcome will
be. Some ingredients are
mandatory, while others are just extra to enhance the flavor. After the proper ingredients
are added they are mixed together, mixing so that we have a smooth concoction hopefully
not lumpy. Even if lumpy, these
lumps can be stirred out. After
the mixture is placed in the pan to cook it goes in the oven. The oven of life may be at the correct
temperature or it may be too hot or too cold. The temperature of our oven can be the determinate of the
outcome. When our oven is too hot
we will get burned, but when at the proper temperature we will be cooked to
perfection.
While cooking
the recipe for the perfect life we must do the following, first we must put God
first. He has to be
number one in our lives. We must
have faith in Him and His plan for us.
Next pray to Him taking
time out of your day to spend time in your quiet place, asking for forgiveness,
mercy and peace. Even though
sometimes hard to do, we must love everyone, even those that seem unlovable. We can’t forget the ingredient of
patience. It isn’t our timing it
is God’s timing. It may not happen
quickly, it may take a long time to be cooked all the way through. Last but not least, find peace living with God through His
word. The bible gives us answers
to every question that we have.
It tells us the rights and the wrongs, the good and the bad. It even tells us how to ask for forgiveness
of our sins. God wants us to have
a healthy life. He will prepare us
and bake us to healthy perfection.
Even if we add the wrong ingredients or burn the recipe we can try
again. God never gives up on
us, even if He has to wait for us to be blue ribbon ready.
Just as we want a finished product that taste of perfection,
god wants a finished product that he can be proud of. A finished product that is heaven ready. Be sure as you are walking this road of
life you add the correct ingredients to make you the person God wants you to
be. Your recipe of life should be
one that is God ready. It will be
an award winning one that is ready for the bake sale of life.
Heb 4:2 "For indeed the gospel was preached to us
as well as unto them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not
being mixed with faith in those who heard it. "
Dear Lord help us cook up the perfect life. We want to add ingredients that will
assist us in sharing peace, love, and joy with those around us. Keep us away from those ingredients
that make us bitter and not better.
Add into our mixing bowl what only You know that we need. We want our life during 2012 to be
cooked to perfection for You.
