My word for June 2nd is POTHOLE
My favorite YouTube ad is the Geico commercial with the
talking pothole. A fancy car
speeds around the corner and hits a large hole in the asphalt. Immediately the car has a flat tire. As the tire goes flat the pothole
begins to speak. I don’t know what
is funnier to me the pothole talking or the sound of the voice. It sounds much like a southern accent. The pothole says, “Oh no did I do that,
your tires all flat and junk”. I
love it, I can watch it over and over and it makes me laugh. I even have the whole commercial
memorized. The pothole continues
by saying, “let me get out my cellular device and call you a wrecker, oh I
forgot I don’t got no cellular device”. The tone of the pothole’s voice however sounds as if
the pothole really doesn’t care if it gave the car a flat or if it gets help. Shame on that pothole!
Life is much like hitting a pothole. We may be riding down the road of life
minding our own business enjoying the day and all of a sudden we hit a
pothole. Potholes, the disruption
in the surface of the roadway, can damage us beyond repair if we aren’t
careful. They can tear our tires
apart and leave us stuck in a rut. We all hit potholes; no one is immune to
them. When we hit a pothole we
have a choice, we can either stay in the pothole or we can jump out of the
indention and move on. How long we
waste sitting in the pit of our pothole is our choice, the longer we sit the
deeper we will go. Potholes are
only temporary stop signs in our journey.
There are however many lessons to learn from the bottom of the
pothole. We have the choice to
grow from a pothole instead of being buried in it. Let it make you stronger. Call on the Lord for help. He purposefully puts potholes in our road to get us where He
needs for us to be. When we hit these potholes of life God
is there to fix our flats. He
inflates us with his spirit and sends us riding down the road again.
As we drive down this road of 2012 we may hit potholes. These potholes may give us a flat or we
can realize to just hit them and move on. Traveling with God will enable us to
understand these holes in the road and use them as a life lesson instead of a
death sentence. When you hit the
pothole get on your cellular device and call God, he will fix your flat.
In Jesus, all things are possible (Luke 18:27)
Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these other
things will fall in place (Matthew 6:33)
