EVERYWHERE, everywhere you turn advertisements and sales
pitches are getting you to buy this item and that item. Sales teams spend hours determining what the
perfect gift is for the season. After the product is determined they figure
out how to sell it. They pull on heartstrings,
they focus on children, they try to have a great price, and everything is done
in hopes that you will buy that one great gift.
Plays on words are developed to draw you in so that you will swipe the
credit card.
As I was searching for an advent read I came across the book
“Christmas Gifts That Wont Break” by James W. Moore. I loved the title. The book was purchased because of a few
words.
As I began to read and started thinking about what sold me
on the book I thought, “A few words!” We
are sold on words, but whose words are the correct words? Whose words are the words that should draw us
in? Whose words give us the gifts that
won’t break?
Jesus spoke and still speaks today. He speaks words that give us direction,
correction, discipline, love, joy, peace, patience and hope. These are the gifts that don’t have to be
advertised. These are the gifts that
don’t have to be bought. These are the
gifts that don’t break.
Jesus’s words are powerful.
His words are worth more than any gift we can purchase on the shelf or
on the Internet. His words are permanent. His words will not disappoint. His words bring us just what we need.
Jesus is the way through His word. He tells us in John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth and the life.” Jesus’s earliest followers were called the
way. The way is and was not the common
path. It is the path that we should
follow, the path the wicked world doesn’t see.
The way is a lifestyle that is that made up of love and compassion.
Jesus’s words are the best gift we can absorb and wrap our
lives around. His words are the way of
life, the way we should strive to live out everyday. Draw close to His words. You may ask why?
