My word for April 14th is LAUGHTER
While our kids went to prom some of us got together at a
friends house. I debated on
whether to go or not, but decided why not. I am so glad I did.
The weather was great and being with friends was wonderful. We sat outside
in a circle and told stories for 3 hours.
The stories were all funny, nothing that was depressing. We laughed and laughed. It was better than antidepressant
medication. It was the best
therapy I have had in a long time.
According to a new study in Japan laughing for just half an
hour a week, can lower your blood pressure for 5-6 points. This equals cutting salt from your food
or losing 10 pounds. What a great
medicine? There is also a therapy
called laughter therapy. Laughter therapy
has proven to enhance the immune system, ease stress, and lessen
depression. Would you believe that
there is also laughter-yoga sessions and also laughter class? These classes teach you the different
ways to add laughter to your life.
Another study has shown that laughing 15 minutes on a daily basis is
good for the vascular system. They
studied blood vessels’ reactions to laughter and found that during laughter the
vessels showed that blood flowed more freely. It is similar to the benefits you may see with aerobic
activity. In an article, “Finish
Your Depression”, laughter is explained as the elixir of life. Nothing fights depression like a good
laugh. Humor is the best medicine
to all life’s ills. It helps
promote clear thinking. It is a
blessing.
The Lord told Abraham that he and his wife Sarah would be
blessed with a child. “Then
Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child
be born unto him that is a 100 years old? And shall Sarah, that is ninety years
old, bear? And God said, Sarah thy
wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thous shalt call his name Isaac. Sarah heard from inside the tent and
she laughed within herself, thinking they had wanted children for so many
years. Isaac means God Laughs, or
laughter. Laughter is the gift of
God that can make all things new and alive with life. The Lord wants us to laugh. He wants to bring happiness and laughter to our lives. Laughter brings us the joy of God. It fights off depression and
disease. In one article the author
states he feels Jesus knew the laughter of God. If he hadn’t he would have never attracted so many people or
healed or raised the dead without knowing the joy of God.
Laughter is wonderful.
It is the best medicine giving to us free by God. It is the ringing of the soul. It is what God wants to do; it is how
He wants us to feel. The “Laughter
of God” should be heard all over the land giving a pleasant and joyous sound to
our ears. Laughter will break the
chains that hold us back, hold us in the dark of depression. Laugh your way to good health.
Dear God thank you for giving us the ability to laugh. Teach us to laugh more often and not
take life so seriously. Lead us to
spend more time with good friends that make us laugh out loud. Fill us with laughter during our
journey of 2012. We know that
laughter is the best medicine.
And Sarah declared, "God has brought me laughter! All who hear about this will laugh with me.
Job 8:21
He will yet fill your mouth with laughter
and your lips with shouts of joy.
Psalms 126:2
We were filled with laughter,
and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, "What amazing things the
LORD has done for them." -
