My dad was born in 1924.
He saw many things during his lifetime and was also very talented. He was a bomber pilot during WWII. After the war he came home received a degree
in marketing and worked for a large rice
company for many years. After his retirement
he began to paint. He found his passion
and purpose in painting. Painting eased
his soul. He was also a woodcrafter. He could take a piece of wood and make
anything out of it.
My father passed away in 1995. We knew he was dying so we were prepared, if
you can be prepared. Several years later
we built our new home. We moved all of
the furniture in and placed the pieces in their
new locations. We put my china
cabinet, in which daddy had made, in the
dining room. I climbed up on the ladder
to put a vase on top when I looked down and saw some lettering. It was written with a pencil and I knew right
away it was my dad’s handwriting. The
letters said, “Misti what would we have done without you.” Tears formed in my eyes as I thought back to
the memories and also the time my dad put into placing every board and nail
into my treasure.
A treasure. I found
my treasure within the words written years ago in pencil on the tiptop of a
china cabinet. God places treasures
everywhere. Some are visible
immediately, but some take time to appear.
It is important for us to take life slowly and look intentionally for
those treasures that are around us.
Are you looking for a treasure? Are you searching for that one thing that
will be of value? To us when we find
treasures we find those particular objects that are meaningful to us, however
to God we are each a treasure. Everyday
He looks at us and says, “What would I do without you?”
Deuteronomy 7:6New International
Version (NIV)
6 For
you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you
out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured
possession.
